Skin Disorders

Skin Disorders

The skin is the largest organ in the human body and acts as a barrier against external environmental influences such as heat, cold, UV radiation and germs.1

The causes of skin disorders may be external stimuli and internal body processes such as hormone changes or auto-immune diseases. Skin disorders, also referred to as dermatosis, may have a very wide range of symptoms including rashes, hives, pustules, nodules, blisters (which can sometimes be purulent). As these skin lesions develop, they may flake and become crusty, in some cases even form scar tissue. They may also give rise to skin cancer.

In addition to the external changes itching, a frequent symptom of these disorders, is an additional unpleasant effect. Sebaceous glands and sweat glands, hair or nails may be affected by dermatosis in addition to skin.
